Every spring, thrill-seekers gather on steep hillsides around the world to chase a wheel of cheese as it hurtles downhill. The tradition began in Gloucestershire, England, and has since spread globally — including to our very own imaginary league of extreme dairy sports.
Competitors sprint, tumble, and slide their way to glory — and occasionally, a sprained ankle. The first to reach the bottom (and catch the cheese) is crowned champion of the roll.
It’s simple—at least in theory. A hefty wheel of Double Gloucester cheese is launched down a dangerously steep hill, and dozens of brave (or slightly unhinged) competitors sprint after it. The hill is so steep that staying upright is nearly impossible, so most participants end up rolling, tumbling, or sliding their way to the bottom. The first person to cross the finish line wins the cheese—and eternal bragging rights. It’s messy, it’s hilarious, and it’s proof that gravity will always have the final say.
